Is Vinyl Siding safe to use for your house and what are the advantages and disadvantages of having it.
These days vinyl siding is becoming increasingly popular. Whether it be on your main house, for a small outhouse or even a shed at the bottom of the yard, people install it for many different reasons. Made out of very strong plastic, the siding will not rot or decay as would other materials. The cost is not overly excessive and the extent of the design is amazing. What used to be modelled on wood can now be transferred to the vinyl siding so you can keep an authentic look if needed.
One of them main reasons people are worried to put vinyl home siding for their house is the apparent health benefits. Made from PVC, some scientists have warned that when PVC is around humans it may lead on to cause cancer. The process to make the vinyl as well as the disposal side is rumoured to be the most dangerous, as when PVC is burned it gives out toxic fumes that have been proved to be a cancer causing substance to humans.
Often advertised as the only thing you’ll ever need on the outside of your house, many people seem to have been taught that vinyl sidings are permanent and everlasting. In actual fact it can damage, not in the conventional sense as would wood or similar, but noticeable changes can happen. Colour fading is a huge problem for homeowners. What goes on brand new as a shiny white can end up looking drabby and worn after a few years in harsh conditions.
Unlike brick or wood, vinyl sidings are not repairable. For instance if your lawnmower strikes up a rock and it cracks the siding, you will have to replace the whole panel rather than just replace the cracked piece. This along with other natural causes of damage could end up to be quite a problem if you don’t have much money around to spend on repairs, or if you don’t have easy access to spares and repairs.
You need to be careful, as it has been reported that in the past homeowners who have fitted vinyl siding to their homes have seen their valuations for their house come down in one case by a whopping $100,000. Although not a problem for most people. it is something that should be taken into consideration. Find out whether your house will go down in value before you install any siding, and if it does, by how much. Are you willing to lose that much for a nicer looking exterior?
As you can see, when you are thinking of installing vinyl house siding there is an awful lot to think about. I would highly recommend that you take your time when considering it and weigh up the advantages and disadvantages. What might seem a great idea this year could prove to be a disaster a few years down the line.
