Essential Bathroom Furniture – Vanities
When shopping around for bathroom furniture, nothing immediately catches the eye like the bathroom vanity. Let’s face it – when you walk into a bathroom, the first piece of furniture that you see is the vanity. Ever walk into a beautifully remodeled bathroom, only to find the vanity looks like the generic garden variety type you see at every cheap apartment complex? Don’t let that be you.
But really, what makes the bathroom vanity so essential? Not only is it a FURNITURE statement (see the example above), it’s an object of FUNCTION. Think about it for a second: how many times a day are you at the bathroom vanity? Morning, afternoon, night… how many times do you wash your hands a day? In fact, this makes the bathroom vanity one of the most used pieces of bathroom furniture. And let us not forget one very important feature of vanities: STORAGE! The bathroom vanity not only provides countertop space for your essentials, it provides storage for the things you don’t use as often.
All of these factors make the bathroom vanity the quintessential piece of bathroom furniture.
Choosing the Perfect Bathroom Vanity
There are actually many different types of vanities: pedestal vanities, glass vanities, double vanities, wall mount vanities, the list is practically endless! As much as they vary in style, they vary in price. Bathroom vanities range from as small as 18″ to as high as 100″! Bathroom furniture makers know how important the bathroom vanity is, so they have developed many different types of vanities, many of which are truly deserving of being called furniture.
Bathroom vanities come “framed” or “unframed”. Framed vanities have their doors attached to the outside and are considered “traditional”. Frameless bathroom vanities are more contemporary and modern. These types of bathroom vanities are designed with the doors having hidden hinges so that their doors are flush with the frame.
Choosing a the perfect bathroom vanity is like finding the perfect piece of furniture – hard, but not impossible. One must take into account several different factors when purchasing a vanity:
- “How much space do we have for bathroom furniture?”
- “How high do we want the vanity?”
- “What kind of material we are looking for?”
and most importantly:
- “How much does it cost?”
All of these factors are important to consider when purchasing any piece of bathroom furniture, but is most important when choosing the bathroom vanity set. The cost of the vanity is heavily affected by the type of material used in the vanity and the size. Clearly, a double vanity will cost more than a single vanity. But is a single vanity made out of oak going to cost more or less than a double vanity made out of glass? Of course, the next logical question is: form or function? Do I want the best looking vanity that I can find, or do I get a vanity that meets the needs of my bathroom?
Don’t make choosing bathroom furniture so hard! Just keep these helpful suggestions handy and deciding on that perfect bathroom vanity will be cake!
